The Euro-Mediterranean Institute for Inter-Civilization Dialog (EMID) proposes to promote cultural and religious dialogue between Mediterranean civilisations ; to establish a network of specialists in inter-Mediterranean dialogue ; to encourage Euro-Mediterranean creativity ; to encourage exchange between Mediterranean societies ; to work to achieve Mediterranean conviviality ; to advise charitable organisations working around the Mediterranean and provide the support necessary to achieve their original projects.

Five annual grants each worth 15,000 USD are planned for artists wishing to focus on work with a Mediterranean theme. The following are eligible:
- writers who have published at least two books;
- renowned artists;
- scriptwriters and filmmakers.
Holders must speak English, spend at least 3 months in Israel in the spring and take part in EMID activities; EMID reserves the right to publish their writings or exhibit the works of artists. Matanel Artists will receive the opportunity to become EMID representatives at their place of residence and be links in the network of militants for Mediterranean dialogue and conviviality.
